It is free, it is yours, and you know how good the light is at six in the evening. The catch arrives the moment you price shade, seating and a bar — which is where backyard wedding furniture stops being a styling question and becomes a budget one.

Hire pricing swings wildly by city, season and supplier, so we are not going to invent a rate for you. Do this instead. Get two or three written hire quotes for your actual date, itemised per piece, and set them beside the purchase prices below.
Then add what a hire quote carries and a purchase price does not: delivery and pick-up, a damage waiver, bump-in and bump-out labour, and the peak-season loading most suppliers apply from October through March.
The number that decides it is what happens on the Monday. Hired furniture leaves; bought furniture stays. You are weighing one day's rental against something you will still be sitting on three summers from now, so when the figures land close, buying wins on that alone.
