The new rooftop terrace has the view, the shade sail and a row of dining chairs that nobody lingers in. Staff and guests want somewhere to sink in after work or between meetings. That is the job of an outdoor lounge: low sofas, modular seats and armchairs set around a coffee table.
This guide covers modular and corner layouts, complete sets, armchairs, frame materials, cushions and coffee tables, with examples from our commercial outdoor lounges range.
Outdoor lounge layouts: modular seats and corners
Modular lounges are built from separate seat units, so the same range can make a two-seat sofa, a long sofa or an L-shaped corner. That flexibility suits terraces that change use between quiet weekdays and busy functions.
The Siesta Mykonos Lounge Corner (from $1,851) combines one Mykonos Lounge Armchair with five Mykonos Extension Parts to form an L-shaped seating area. It measures 2000mm along each side, 720mm deep and 750mm high, with a 330mm seat height. The frame is polypropylene reinforced with glass fibre, UV stabilised and rated to a 150kg safe working load. It comes with no cushion or with Black Etisilk cushions.
To grow a Mykonos layout, the Mykonos Extension Part (Pack of 2) ($538) is priced per pack of two seats. Each seat weighs 10kg, carries a 150kg safe working load and will not fade under direct sunlight. Cushions are optional, at 100mm thick. Check colours before mixing pieces: the corner lists Silver Grey, while the extension parts list White and Taupe.
For planning seating on a roof, see our guide to rooftop terrace furniture for offices and strata buildings.
Complete lounge sets with cushions
A complete set saves matching pieces one by one, and it arrives with cushions and a table chosen for the range. The Monaco Lounge Set - With Cushions ($2,525) includes three lounge armchairs, one extension part and one lounge table. It also has four beige backrest and four beige seat cushions, each 7 cm thick in polyester fabric with piping. The rattan-look frame is injection moulded resin reinforced with glass fibre and cleans with a quick hose down.
The Tequila Lounge Set - With Cushions ($2,394) takes a different approach. It brings together one sofa, two armchairs, one lounge coffee table and two side coffee tables. Its beige cushions for the sofa and armchairs are 50mm thick, washable and suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Armchairs, frames and seat heights
Single armchairs fill gaps, face a sofa across a table or make small pairs along a balustrade. Our armchairs and single lounges range covers both lounge and dining styles.
The Siesta Paris Lounge Armchair (Pack of 2) ($645) is priced per pack of two chairs. It is polypropylene reinforced with glass fibre, UV stabilised, stackable and weighs 5.5kg, with a relaxed 400mm seat height and a 150kg safe working load.
None of the lounges in this guide has an aluminium frame, but aluminium armchairs suit terraces where lounge and dining areas meet. The Bordeaux Armchair (Pack of 2) ($553) is priced per pack of two. It has a powder-coated aluminium frame, stacks away when space is tight and carries a 3 year warranty. Its 450mm seat height is dining height, higher than the 330mm Mykonos seats and the 400mm Paris Lounge Armchair.
| Lounge or piece | Pieces | Frame material | Cushions |

| Bordeaux Armchair (Pack of 2) | 2 armchairs | Powder-coated aluminium | None listed |
Resin with a woven rattan look reads as relaxed and warm, smooth polypropylene looks cleaner and lighter, and aluminium gives a slim metal line. The Mykonos Lounge Corner, Monaco and Tequila pages describe non-metallic frames that will not unravel, rust or decay.
Coffee tables and layouts for groups
Every lounge needs somewhere to put a drink within reach of each seat. The Mykonos Lounge Table (Pack of 2) ($420) is priced per pack of two tables. Each is 650mm square and 330mm high, weighs 7kg, and doubles as a backless seat within the Mykonos Lounge.
For groups, an L-shaped corner with a table in front keeps everyone facing in, which suits after-work drinks and team catch-ups. A sofa with two armchairs across a coffee table suits smaller groups and leaves walkways open. Keep at least one clear path past the lounge to doors, lifts and the bar.
Cushions, sun and weather on Australian terraces
Australian sun and coastal weather are hard on outdoor furniture, and cushions wear first. The Monaco and Tequila pages say the sets will not fade or go brittle in harsh Australian conditions. Cushion warranties are shorter than frame warranties: Mykonos extension cushions carry 2 years against a 5 year structural warranty, and the Monaco set lists a 3 Month warranty on cushions.
Bring cushions in after service and before rain, store them dry, and wash cushions where the page says they are washable, as on the Tequila set. Hose down resin and polypropylene frames, and keep cushions out of the midday sun when the terrace is closed.
On rooftops, wind matters too, so bring light pieces in before storms. Deliveries go to the ground-floor entrance, and goods arrive flat-packed unless the page says assembled; the Paris Lounge Armchair, for example, is supplied assembled. Book the goods lift and plan how pieces reach the roof. Each page's Delivery line names its cities: these pieces list metro Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide and are not available for delivery in WA, while the Bordeaux Armchair also lists Perth.
